It’s Ours! — Foto Friday

91|365: It's Ours!

We closed on Wednesday! It’s ours!

A moving van arrives today from Ohio with stuff from my mom’s house—wedding gifts she’s had since my Ohio shower; furniture from my grandmother; a few other odd and ends. Tomorrow we move from our current house to the new one. I can’t wait!

Thanks for coming along for the ride. It was a great experience, and I would recommend building to anyone who’s in the market for a new house.

Oh, we’re close now, y’all!

House Update IV

Things are moving right along! This week the entire interior was painted, and all of the non-carpet flooring was put down. The hardwoods downstairs . . .

Hardwoods!

The flooring in both the laundry room and the mudroom is vinyl composite tile (VCT). It’s pretty much exactly what they put in the model, and I liked it so much that I picked the same thing for us! (The hallway bathroom floor is also VCT, only just the buff-colored tiles instead of the checkered.)

The lighting fixtures are mostly all in too.

The bathroom cabinets are stained/painted and the hardware is installed. The counters and sinks were installed this week too. Just need fixtures now!

Hall Bath -- Love the hardware!

All that’s left now is to finish the tile in the bathroom and around the fireplace, put in the remaining light fixtures and bathroom fixtures and lay the carpet! Oh, and a few other exterior things like the steps off the porch and the stone work. They’ll paint the exterior and pour our driveway and sidewalk after we close. (Probably in May sometime.)

We move in two weeks from today! I can’t believe it got here so fast. Everyone said that building a house would be stressful and crazy, but I have to say, so far (SO.FAR), it’s been pretty great. It’s such a trip to see it go up, from a hole in the ground to the framing to the drywalling to the a real actual house. It’s awesome.

House Update III

Things are moving right along! This week they put up the siding …

Houuuuuuuuuse!

They also installed all our cabinets. The kitchen!

Kitchen Cabinets!!

He’s excited …

Aaron in kitchen

I don’t know why I’m so excited about this, but I am. One can for trash, the other for recycling. No more piles of recycling on our kitchen counters!

Trash in the drawer

The bathtub is in, too. (Cannot wait to take a bath!)

Bathtub!

The backyard. (Snow is melting. Melt away, snow!)

And the man of the house. He is ready to move in! (He did ask if he thought they’d mind if we started moving things into the basement.)

House Update II

This morning Aaron and I visited an appliance warehouse to pick out our kitchen appliances. The front of the showroom was filled with Viking ranges and SubZero refrigerators; floor to ceiling wine coolers and showroom kitchens you’d want to live in forever.

Our salesman met us up front and led us aaaaaaall the way to a little back room, for Average Janes and Joes like us.

But that’s okay, because picking out brand new appliances and the most beautiful fridge I’ve ever owned was a thrilling experience. We decided to go with a double wall oven, and my husband just doesn’t even know how handy that is going to be when we host Thanksgiving this year.

It’s a real grown up house. I cannot wait to move. We’ve done pretty well in this little place the past 21 months, but knowing that our forever house is only a few months away makes the imperfect things about this place harder to deal with. Aaron keeps saying that he’s going to keep groping around in the dark in our new closet and that we’re still going to brush our teeth over the same sink and fight over who gets to hit snooze and who HAS to get up and shower in order for us to get to work on time.

After we left the appliance store, Aaron went to work and I drove by the lot. There were people working so I didn’t get out, instead opting to creepily idle on the street and take pictures from my car with my phone.

There are two stories! And a garage!

It won’t be long now!
